About Mayor Allen Joines

I am running for re-election to continue making positive changes for the amazing community of Winston-Salem. It is an honor to serve as your mayor, and I am committed to finishing the work we've started. Together, we can shape a better future for our city.

Let's build on our progress, celebrate our achievements, and keep moving forward. I believe in the potential of our community, and I am dedicated to representing your voices and values.

Join me in this journey to create a stronger, more vibrant Winston-Salem. Your support is crucial, and together, we can make a lasting impact.

I’ve Spent More Than 40 Years In Public Service

I began my service to you in 1971 when I joined the city as an assistant city manager. I’ve been involved in virtually every area of service Winston-Salem provides our residents, from economic development and new job recruitment to operations and public safety.

During my time working with the city I worked with more than 30 companies that relocated or expanded in Winston-Salem, retaining existing jobs and creating new ones.

Bringing Together The Private Sector To Create Jobs

I retired from the City of Winston-Salem in 2000 to become the President of The Winston-Salem Alliance, a non-profit development corporation created to improve economic vitality by bringing private sector funding and expertise together to advance projects that will result in new jobs and a growing economy for our residents.

Honored To Be Elected Mayor In 2001

I was honored to be elected Mayor of the City of Winston-Salem in November 2001 and re-elected in 2005 and 2009.

As Mayor, I have concentrated on rebuilding the economy and bringing our community together. I have a track record of attracting new companies and creating jobs in Winston-Salem, while maintaining a business friendly city for existing businesses so they can not only survive, but also expand and thrive.

During my time as Mayor the City has been able to move forward on initiatives to

– Redevelop our neighborhoods and keep them safe

– Add jobs by attracting new companies to the city or through expansion of existing businesses

– Reduce childhood obesity

– Protect our environment

– End chronic homelessness just to name a few

– Maintain our tax rate among the lowest of North Carolina’s major urban areas
